Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Paper House

Saturday, August 10, 2013

I'm participating in a marvelously fun swap over on Craftster called the Inchie House swap. We're all practicing our paper architecting skills and making 1" square houses for 3 partners.

The houses are sent flat and then the recipients glue them together and build their own little inchie house village.

This is the 'home is where the heart it is' design that I created for my partners!

I started by tracing this house template, from Craftster member Sarcasta, onto watercolor paper and carefully cutting the design out. I then scored the folded lines to ensure for crisp corners.

I painted the top part of the house with blue and green watercolor paints. I used acrylics to paint oodles of hearts all over the bottom part of the house and filled the gaps in with gold metallic paint.

When all of the paints had dried, I went over the entire house filling in details with white and silver paints as well as tiny inked lines for definition.

To finish it off, I added a small door with paint and pen details as well as the word "home" cut from an old children's book. I used my teeniest Micron pen to write the words "...is where the heart is" on card stock and embellished it with painted dots.

Every good house needs a good foundation so I also created simple little bases for the constructed homes to sit on. I glued book pages to a piece of card stock and then painted a narrow white border around the outside. Once it was dry, I filled it in with ink and painted hearts and stamped the edges with distress ink. The base is finished with a coat of Modge Podge to keep the book pages in place.

I had so much fun making these. I know there are more itty bitty teeny house architecting in my future! I'm also really excited to see what my partner's came up with for me!!

You can find the swap gallery on Craftster. It's sure to be filled with adorable little houses!

I love miniatures! And whoever came up with sending them flat for the swap is a genius.
