We don't have kids, at least not any with opposable thumbs, but it struck me that the benefits I've seen from knitting, could be seen by kiddos of all ages! My little cousin, Ella, also showed me this Christmas season that even tiny fingers can make great knits.
I was inspired to put together a little giveaway to share my love of this hobby! It's geared toward kids but would also be fun for grown-ups that are new to knitting.
Here are the details!
This giveaway is open to one and all and includes the following goodies;
- A brand new copy of the book, Kids Knitting (filled with cute projects for all ages)
- A set of Lion Brand kids knitting needles (these are short and light for small hands)
- A Boyce knit accessory kit (all the doo-dads you could possibly need)
- A skein of Lion Brand Wool Ease yarn (great yarn for beginners)
Don't have kids? Already an expert knitter? Don't have any interest in knitting? You can still enter! Consider donating your prize to a local charity.

I learned how to crochet at 17. It was something I tried picking up at 15, but never... Wanted to have the dedication for it. Plus I can NOT make myself finish a blanket. I didn't have the attention span.
I actually picked up amigurumi instead. My first piece was a ZERO from Nightmare Before Christmas for my second swap on Craftster. I had a deadline, my aunt and mom helped me complete it because my stitches were waaaay too tight, but I still got it done and it looked fabulous.
I still crochet pretty often, sometimes even useful things other than amigurumi.
I wonder if the kids book would make it so that I could actually learn how to knit. :)
I learnt crocheting when I was a kid. My aunt and cousins were expert crocheters and I picked it up from them. Over time, I took more liking to knitting and crochet just fell off the cart.
Right this moment, I'm back to being in love with knitting, and my daughter wants to knit with me so badly! This little bundle might help us get started!
I learned to sew when I was about 8. I made an apron, and then didn't touch a sewing machine again until college when I sewed 20 Barbie doll outfits for a Women and Art class. I made all sorts of strong, historical woman outfits for Barbie. My Prof loved it.
I learnt to hand sew when I was a little girl and I still do although over the years I have grown to love other crafts, I still break out the sewing machine once in a while.
I was a horrible knitter as a kid and am still not very good. That being said...I have wanted to learn to be better SOOOOOO bad!!
I will always blame being left handed as a reason I am not very good...but that is a cheap excuse..hehe
I'm finishing up college and learned how to knit recently just for kicks and giggles. It really does help to have a creative outlet! When I was a kid I loved to craft and make silly little things, and I'm happy to say that I still love the creative energy and the amazing feeling that comes from creating something.
I learned to crochet when I was young and then only a few years ago I learned to knit. That led to learning to spin my own yarn. Now I have a quite a collection of needles and two spinning wheels.
I was always a reader as a kid. I didn't become crafty until I was an adult. My sister and step mom can both knit but I cannot...I would love to learn and it would be great to learn along with my 11 year old! Thanks for a fab giveaway!
Oooh I get to enter two comments! Well my current favorite thing to do is embroidery. In fact I really need to go buy more hoops!
I learned how to embroider as a kid and still do that from time to time. My daughter has been trying to learn to knit and I think this might help her! She also adores any sort of craft book.
im a new follower :) raineoc@yahoo.com
I am a knitter now. I really didn't have a hobby until I was in my late 30's with knitting. I was "taught" how to knit when I was about 8. I just remember though it was hard for the person who "taught" me because I just couldn't get it. Now I knit like it is going out of style. Love love it. I have tried to teach one of my nieces but I think at the time she was too young. I think now at age 8 might be a better age for her.
Both she and I are left handed and I am a Continental knitter.
My hobby is crafting.I love doing all sorts of crafts like scrap booking, glass painting, jewelry making, sewing projects everything.I started crafting at the age of 6 and i still do it today. It's a fun way to spend my spare time and you could make all kinds of things to give to friends and family.I never actually learned how to knit before but I would love to try!!!!!

As a kid I drew and painted all the time and I still do to this day! I've been lucky enough to even make a career of it. Knitting is a hobby that I've always been intrigued by, yet never had the opportunity to learn. My sister knits occasionally so I think this book would be fantastic for my niece! (then SHE could teach ME!)
I learned to knit in high school and hope my grandchildren will learn too. Thanks for chance to win.
I have been a stitcher and sewer since the age of 12 and have always wanted to learn to knit. I think it is time my 11 year old daughter and I learn together :)
we would love a chance to win! Thank you!

My mom tried to teach me to knit and crochet when I was younger. I was not that good. I can kind of do simple scarfs and hats. When I was pregnant I thought about all the beautiful things my mom used to make. I found a pattern & tutorial for this cute onesie with a ruffled bottom. I don't know how many times I had to re-start the project....well, when I was done I tried it on a doll. Its a good thing I did, I forgot to leave a opening to button it up on the baby. I has to take the arm off the doll just to get the outfit on and off. I am still trying to get the hang of it... My daughter likes to try with me.
My gram taught me to crochet when I was 6 years old. She taught me to knit a few years later. i taught my daughter (son was too hyper to be interested) and some of her friends. I have a little friend I would like to teach now, but most of my needles and hooks were lost in our recent cross country move, so i don't have the supplies. Winning this giveaway would make Malia and me very happy!
I never got a chance to learn from my "mom". She passed away just about the time I wanted to start learning. So, I now take online tutorials to learn knitting and crochet. I'm trying to pass it on not only to my own daughter but to my girl scouts. I think it's a hobby that is often forgotten by the current generation and I want to instill not only the ideals of today's woman but also the skills and traditions of yesterday's.
This kit would be shared by my whole troop. Thanks for the chance to win it!
I just started knitting 2 years ago, and I can't get enough! My 4 year old daughter loves watching me. She will go grab 2 pencils and a hair elastic and say she is knitting as well. This kit would be a great way to get her started!

I am a new follower! My 5 year old son has even started to take an interest in knitting. In fact, just today he asked me if boys could knit. I told him certainly! He can't wait to learn now also!

I used to love watching my mom and grandmother sew...and I am just getting back into it myself! They also crocheted, but I never quite managed to pick that up.
I now knit and my daughter had been bugging me to teach her how. This would be a great way to get started! I had no idea that they make kids needles!
I learned cross-stitch when I was young from my mom. I still enjoy it but knitting has become my go-to craft :)
I followed the breadcrumbs from Craft Gossip. I already knit, but I love the idea of giving this kit to a person I know who doesn't knit but tells me she'd like to learn. Thank you so much for the opportunity, it's a sweet thing you are doing!
favorite two crafts leanred as a kid : stage/movie/monster make-up and japanese embroidery!
i also liked ikabana, japanese floral arrangement, and balloon crafts - ie arches, baskets, displays
As a kid- arts and crafts were always a hobby of mine. When I was home sick, which was often because of every changing allergies as a kid, I would watch crafting/DIY shows on TV. Then, I would open my craft bins and spread out across the living room with my projects. I played with lots of mediums but I could never get the hang of crocheting like my grandmother. She tried teaching me for years, but all I could make was a chain. It wasn't until college that I got the hang of crocheting then picked up knitting too.
I learned to sew from my mother and do about every craft you can imagine. My grandaughter enjoys doing crafts with me. Knitting would be a new joint media for both.
I learned to knit with my mum. The first thing we made was an advent calendar that we still use (30 years on!). As a teenager got out of the habit but about 5 years ago got back into it & love it. My friend's little girl is getting into crafty things and I know she'd love this. Thanks for a lvoely giveaway.
My niece has been trying to learn to knit -- she loves the things I make for her and would adore those needles and all the other supplies!
My grandma taught me to knit when I was about 5 years old and I am still absolutely passionate about it. My mum used to make all our clothes too when I was little and I made my first dress (A-line, brown cotton with orange flowers - very 70s) at school when I was 7. Still love doing this too for my own children. Teaching my 4 year-old is the next step!
My grandma learned me to knit when I was very young, I don't remember the age, but very young. She passed away theree years ago and I miss her very much.
Thank you for this giveaway.
I would love to win this and teach the child next store as he is a special needs child and I think that him learning to knit would make him feel better about being a little different.
I want to teach my grand-kids to crochet and knit and having this book would be a big help
I have been knitting and crocheting for nearly 40 years! My Grammie was the one who taught me to knit. She had lots of patience and gave me the key advise that I use in teaching today! Tension is everything!
I would love to win this for my grand daughter. Something she can take home and work on when I am not able to be there and show her how!
I have tried most crafts. Sewing and cross stitch are my first loves, but knitting is a great pass time for riding in the car. Portable and relaxing.
liz
I've been crocheting on and off since my early 20’s. Now that I have grandchildren I'm more on than off! I'd love to try my hand at knitting. Thanks.
My mother made sure I knew how to do it all. Hand and machine sewing, which I still love to this day. But, I learned to knit when I was in the 7th Grade from our Home Ec. teacher. I have done so many projects that even today my hubby wonders where they all have gone (to my friends). Last year my son was interested in learning to knit. So, believe it or not he is knitting, and doing a great job of making scarfs. But, he now wants to make an afghan for his bed. So, we are soon heading off to the shop to get the yarn and needles needed for his latest project. It may take him awhile to complete, as he is busy with school/after school projects.
My favorite hobby is soapmaking. My parents bought me a soapmaking course for my 14th birthday and ever since I have been making cold process soap
I started sewing with my grandmother about 4 or 5 years old. I never really learned, though, because my mother considered any kind of crafting "beneath" her because she was a "working mom" and, therefore, didn't have time to have a "hobby.". Tragic. I finally learned to sew, knit and quilt as an adult. Fond memories of being with my grandmother in the sewing room inspired me to find in my own crafting the peace that I found in that room.
This would be perfect to get my niece started knitting. This size needles are great.
my favorite hobby is sewing.
I learned to sew on my mother's old treadle machine and made most of my college wardrobe. Now, decades later, I'm making things for charity.

I learned how to crochet when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I still enjoy it. I also learned how to sew and I am so grateful I did. I have a daughter who is learning how to knit and this giveaway would be perfect for her.
I love to scrapbook! Thanks, mamatkins@hotmail.com
learned to crochet at 10. have many learning to knit
I knit, but i can't purl for the life of me. Her's hoping that a beginner book will make learning easier.
My grandmother taught me to how to knit and I still enjoy this. Thank you for this great giveaway!
I am a knitter and have begun teaching my kids to knit. They would love to have a selection of patterns all their own and supplies that dont come from my collection.
My Grandmother taught me how to knit at about 10? She gave me some needles, and a small ball of red red heart yarn. I cast on 20 odd stitches, and knit knit knit every row. The "finished object" went from 3 inches wide to about 2 inches wide, until I figured out my tension was off, then back again to 3 inches. There were holes, where I'd accidentally yarned over. I ripped that thing out and tried again, and it was better, but I always wish that I hadn't now. It was quite the ugly thing.
The other craft I learned as a kid was embroidery. I don't remember who gave me my first kit, but it still sits in my craft closet as an unfinished project. lol
My mum taught me to knit before I started school. I can remember it was pink and very holey!! But I have continued to knit since and last week made a cabled cardigan for my teapot (no not mad, just creative). It's a very quirky tea cosy that everyone loves. My daughter has ordered a larger one for her 4 month old!!
My grandson who is 9 is very interested in all crafts. He is a talented artist also. He and I spend many hours together "making things". He just finished his first quilt. He did the piecing and I finished it for him, adding the borders and machine quilting. He has asked me to teach him to quilt so I am very interested in the book etc. that you provide. I hope I win.
I am getting back into knitting. I mostly crochet but venture out to knitting once in awhile. I have four grandkids, two of each and I am sure one of them would like to learn to knit
Hello,
I learned to knit when I was 14 as a 4H project. My first project was making a pair of slippers on size 8 metal needles. I am lots older now and knitting is my go to relaxing hobby. I have two little girls I would love to have this kit so they can continue the tradition.
I learned to knit in high school, and it still gives me so much pleasure - and de-stresses me! My daughter has taken to knitting in the last year, and more projects and her own notions would be fantastic!
I look at knit items and swoon. I am a crocheter who knows just a little about knitting. Lately I find myself reading and spending hours on knitting blogs, well the time has come to take charge and learn the beautiful art of knitting. I would like to learn and be able to share this with my 12 year old daughter. Give a person a knit scarf and they will be warm for a day, teach a person to knit and they will be warm and crafty forever! lol!
I learned to crochet at 7 years old from a neighbor and have been trying to learn to knit for many years, I am left handed - so that is another challenge!
Thanks for the great giveaway :)
I am a follower - Thanks!
I learned to knit and crochet quite young about 7 or 8 years oldas I stayed with my Grandmother all school holidays and I tried to copy her, she was always doing it. I loved to make things for everybody, at first I did drop alot of stitches but I improved with practise, and while I was learning I remember my mother watching me one day and I said to her "I am knitting fast in slow motion!!!" That has stuck in my mind forever it feels like.
I now would love to win this book to knit with my Grand daughter. I do hope she will be interested in it like I was, her mother my daughter wasn't so I am hoping it misses a generation and her daughter takes it up.
I learned to knit as a kid. My first project was a strip of garter stitch that I sewed into a headband. Many years later, I am still knitting, mostly hats and scarves for charity. I find knitting to be very therapeutic and peaceful (sort of like meditation), plus I love using natural yarns, especially hand-painted or kettle-dyed ones. I also have recently started sewing again, after a long hiatus. One of my goals for 2012 is to make my first quilt!
I learned to crochet as a teen and now have a granddaughter who wants to learn!
Now that I'm knitting my granddaughter wants to learn how! Thanks for 2 chances to win!
I taught myself to knit in High School. I still use the original how-to book put out by Coats and Clark. This would be a great prize for me as I have a 5 yr old niece and 6 yr old granddaugheter.
I learned to crochet on a long road trip across the US when I was 8. Thanks for the giveaway!
I am a follower of your blog. thanks for the giveaway!
I'm a loom knitter, and my kids are very interested in knitting. It would be awesome if I could win this so we could all learn to knit together.
My mother taught me to knit and crochet (and embroider, etc) when I was little, and now I'm doing the same for my granddaughter....she's already done cards, and quilts, and embroidery but we haven't tried knitting and crochet yet - they are next on her Nana Teach Me list!
I learned to embroider when I was 4 years old but my real love is sewing which I learned at a young age, too. Now I have 11 year old twin granddaughters I would love to teach to knit so this prize would come in very handy. Thanks for offering it.
I tried to learn knitting from my aunt, who knitted outfits for herself, when I was a child; but I really learned from her after I had children.
When I was a kid, I loved to do weaving. Now as an adult, I would love to give it another try as soon as I can find enough room for a weaving loom in my apartment!
I don't even remember when I learned to knit or who taught me, my mother or grandmother. I've loved it all my life. When I haven't been knitting, I've been sewing, although I haven't been able to do as much in past years because of arthritis. I would love to pass on my love of knitting and sewing to my granddaughter - this kit would be a great help in that:-)
I like crafting since I was kid...but never try knitting...noone tought me how to knit...if I could get this give I'll try to learn how to knit then
My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was about 8 and I kept it up for 50 years. I am trying to learn how to knit not doing very good but I will learn. I learn from watching that is what my grandmother told me was the best way to learn and I listened to her and have been doing it that way all my life.
My grandmother taught me how to crochet as a child which I still do. I will teach my daughter how to crochet, too. Wouldn't it be cool to teach her to knit with this kit!
I'm not very good at knitting but thought this would be fun to try with my granddaughter. I learned to embroider as a child and still love doing it.
I learned how to crochet when I was young, but put it aside for learning other skills. I picked it back up a couple of years ago and my daughter sat beside me and learned too. It is now one of her favorite things to do when she is feeling creative. We now crochet things together and it is a lot of fun.
I learned to crochet when I was in school from my pastor’s wife. I was 7 or 8 I would love to learn to knit it would be fun for my daughter and me to go through and learn together.
I learned how to knit when I was expecting my first child. It is so relaxing!
i learned to do a lot of crafts when I was young and still do them, one of my favorites is paper quilling.
I learned to make potholders with a weaving loom, and latch hook, but do neither of those now. They were just an introduction. My daughter who is 5 is now asking about knitting, which I learned in adulthood......the circle of life =o) Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Gosh, when I was a kid I had more crafts than you could imagine! And I still love all of them. I can't remember learning knitting, but I suspect I did and I have recently gone from looking like a drunk monkey trying to knit to a halfway decent knitter! If I won, I'd see if this would spark my girls' interest in trying to learn. What a great giveaway - and a great blog! Must poke around on it...
I learned to crochet when I was a teenager. Still have my crooked afghan, no on told me to increase when I turned! I till love to crochet but would love to learn to knit. This is something I could use to teach myself and later teach my granddaughter when they got older.
I love to knit. My aunt taught me when I was just about 7 or so years old. I simply cannot resist learning new techniques, trying new things and working with a variety of materials. I often make up my own patterns, and my dream is to have a published pattern one day. My daughter is fascinated with watching me knit, and this would be perfect for getting her started on her own creative journey, and passing along all the skills that I have learned so far!
I think I've always loved crafting! Right now, I'm into knitting, and have made quite a few pairs of socks - I love them & wear them all the time. My 7-yr old daughter wants to learn to knit, but I don't know if I can teach her myself - this would be a great book for her to learn with!
A couple of months ago, my kids & I were in a bookstore - we told them they could each choose some books. My 9-yr old son had his, then saw a book of patterns for knitting animals (has always loved animals). He said he wanted to put his books back & buy the knitting book for me, so that maybe I would knit him an animal. How could I refuse - I bought his books plus the knitting book. Maybe I could teach him to knit & we'd have his zoo of animals twice as quickly :-)

My mom taught me to sew as a young child and I am still in love with it! Now I am having a great time teaching my son to sew!
I have always loved crafts su8ch as crocheting, sewing, baking etc. think it would be fun to learn to knit with my granddaughter she would love learing something with me instead from me.
My kids (all boys) would love this! I remember my male cousin knitting a Doctor Who scarf when he was a kid, and I thought it was so cool that he didn't think it only had to be a girl thing. I myself love to cross-stitch, scrapbook, and craft a little bit of everything.
I learned to hand sew my Barbie clothes. Because I keep losing the store brought ones . My grandma gave me scraps and let me have at it. I now make doll clothes for my little cousins.
i follow!
my gram tried to teach me crochet when i was little, didnt work. While in college/high school... ( i doubled up two years at once) A friend taught mt to knit. I didnt touch it the 13 years we lived in the tropics but when we moved and i was stressed taking state exams my mom retaught me. I have knit almost every day these past 6 years... and spin and dye as well. This keeps me sane.
I have a neighbors daughter who is 7 and just asked if i would teach her, this is what we plan on doing for her feb vacation... this would be perfect!
My mom taught me to knit and crochet and embroider when I was little. She was a seamstress, so I learned machine and handsewing, too. Just the basics for everything. Then a few years ago I decided to pick up those skills again and relearned everything and more using fun books and online tutorials and even took a couple of machine sewing classes, which of course my parents thought I was nuts to pay for, because sewing runs in our blood, haha! I really love making things with my hands and I would love to learn more fun knitting skills!
Thank you!
Elisa :D
I always enjoy crafts, even as a kid. I have dabbled in a lot of different crafts over the years. I will re-visit some crafts now and then, like crochet. The craft I like most is tatting. I didn't learn it until 10 plus years ago, but I haven't stopped tatting since. I'm trying to teach my 2 girls to tat too.
I have an 11-year old and a 5-year old who have asked me to teach them to knit and to crochet - I do both. I am eager to teach them and to pass along pass along the skills and the love for the crafts that my mother and my sister shared with me.
Knitting was my hidden talent that I picked up from my best friend grandmother when we went on a trip to visit her one summer when I was 10. She taught me her magical ways of swinging those magic needles in a more mind blowing way than with Harry Potter and his magic wand. I was hooked! It kept me distracted from bad influences and other things that brought me down. I'm 20 now and I want to introduce my dyslexic sister into the world of knitting as a scapegoat for her. She needs some physical stimulation that would engage her focus and what better way than knitting!
I was always a crafty kid from the time I gained motor-skills. I started knitting when I was about 13. All I did was the garter stitch and made scarves(didn't we all?) I did that for a couple of years and then later on went onto crocheting as I needed to learn for an element to my first craft swap. Years later I had just turned 22 and knitting finally made sense to me. I have only been knitting 1.25years, but I am making things I never dreamed I could make and now call knitting my favorite craft. :)
My favorite hobby lately has been knitting (or crocheting). I'm still learning, but would love to teach my niece or daughter how to knit.
I learned to knit when I was in grade four or five. I used to do scarves for all my teddy bears. :) I'd love to win this for my daughter. She's six, and really really wants to learn to knit too. This would be a great way to get her started.
Since I was a little kid, around 5 or less, I've loved to sing. I would compose my own cutesy-fartsy songs and my family would love them. I would prance around the house screaming at the top of my lungs and even now I still do and probably will till the end of time. It's something that I love and my voice is an instrument I'll always treasure. It's definitely a way to express my feelings successfully. I'm still in high school, and recently I've found a wonderful new hobby that I'm enraptured with all the same. I haven't started long ago, about a month actually, but I've fallen in love with knitting. In my free time, I do research about how to do specific stitches and patterns and such and I'm sure knitting is another hobby I'll take with me to the grave!
I only learned to crochet a few years ago, but its my fav. Hobby. I luv to make amis for my kids...
Knitting is my favorite hobby, you can make anything and i love the look of a knitted piece.

When I was a young girl my mother taught me to knit. Of course this was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. LOL Actually it was in the sixties and as a child of that time, I was more interested in store bought than homemade. Now all these years later I wish I had held onto those skills my mother shared with me. I would love to pass them on to my grandkids. So I see an opportunity to do that here. Learn again so that I can share my mothers gift. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
Since we are allowed two comments, I wanted to share that my own creative passion has been designing teddybears. I have made many in my lifetime, inspired by my Grandmother, who infact was a knitter and crocheted. I sew mine with fabric and thread, but so want to learn to knit some as well. Thanks for the blog and the giveaway.
Ilearnt to knit as a 'nipper' sat on the floor by my grandmothers feet. She always had something on the go, and she, my mum and my aunt used to do aran knits to order!
I as really proud of the fact that I taught mu grandfather to knit when I was about 8, but thinking about it now, he probably already knew, and just went along with me! He knitted quite a few squares to go in the blanket, which has, unfortunately, long since been consigned to the dog basket in the sky!
I have started knitting again recently after a bit of a break and if my almost 3 three year old is around, he sits on my knee with a thick scarf DH knitted for me, and some knitting needles and 'helps' me knit by threading the needles through the scarf! It's lovely that he wants to be part of what I'm doing, and hoping that when he gets a bit bigger, no - make that older, I'll be able to teach him and his younger brother.
I learned how to knit by my grandmother when I was 6 and then crochet when I was about 12. I love both. I am just about to start teaching 26 kids how to knit in school. I think it is a great hobby and wonderful thing to learn. So hopefully the kids will get the hang of it and enjoy it.
Thanks for the chance to win a fab prize. Siobhan :)
My grandma tried to teach me to crochet as a kid but I never caught on. Recently, though, I've picked it up and I think of her often.
